Book a time

Pick a free first call or a meeting. You’ll get a confirmation email right away. Please keep tax details out of booking notes, since we’ll ask for them once we’re talking.

  • First call is free and takes 20 minutes
  • By phone, by video or at our office
  • A flat price quoted in writing before work starts
What would you like to book?

We’ll get back to you to confirm a time.

The first call is free. A planning meeting or year-end check-up is billed by invoice afterward, not when you book, and its fee comes off the work if you hire us within 30 days. Please cancel or move a booking at least a day ahead. Tax details stay out of booking notes: we’ll ask for them once we’re talking.

How getting started works

  1. 1

    A free first call

Twenty minutes by phone or video. We learn what you need and tell you what we’d charge.

  2. 2

    An engagement letter

A one-page letter says what we’ll do, what it costs and who does it. You sign it online.

  3. 3

    Papers through the portal

You put your documents in our encrypted client portal, or drop paper off at the office.

  4. 4

    Review, then file

We send a draft, answer your questions and file only after you approve it.

What to bring

Papers help, but don’t email them

Bring paper copies to your appointment, or put them in the client portal after we’ve set up your login. The portal is encrypted. Ordinary email and the forms on this website are not a secure way to send Social Security numbers, bank details or tax papers, so please keep those out of them.

  • Last year’s return, if we didn’t prepare it
  • Your W-2s, 1099s and 1098s
  • Business income and expense records for the year
  • A photo ID
  • Any letters from the IRS or your state
  • Your direct-deposit details, on paper

Questions new clients ask

Getting started

Are you taking new clients?

Yes. Year-end check-ups are open through December 18. For 2026 returns filed in 2027, we take new individual clients until March 26 and new business returns until February 26. After those dates we can still file an extension for you. Current clients hear from us in early January.

How do I get started?

Book a free 20-minute first call, or ask for a call on our Contact page. We’ll learn what you need and quote a flat price in writing. If you hire us, you sign a short engagement letter, send your papers through our client portal, and we send a draft for your review before anything is filed.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Last year’s return if we didn’t prepare it, your W-2s, 1099s and 1098s, business income and expense records, a photo ID, any letters from the IRS or your state, and the bank details for a direct-deposit refund. Bring paper copies or put them in the portal. Don’t email them.

How do I send you my documents safely?

Use our encrypted client portal, or drop paper off at the office. Ordinary email and the forms on this website aren’t a secure way to send Social Security numbers, bank details or tax papers, so please don’t use them for that. We’ll set up your portal login during your first meeting.

Fees

How much does it cost to have my taxes done?

A basic individual return starts at $245, federal and one state. Self-employment or rental income starts at $425. After your first call we quote a flat price in writing before we begin, and it never depends on the size of your refund. Every price is on our Fees page.

How much do you charge for bookkeeping or payroll?

Monthly bookkeeping starts at $195 for up to 75 transactions. Bookkeeping with payroll for up to five employees starts at $395. The price follows your number of transactions and employees, and we tell you before you sign. Our packages are on the Fees page.

Is the first call free?

Yes. It’s 20 minutes by phone or video at no charge, and it covers whether we’re a good fit and what the work would cost. We can’t advise on your own return on that call. A 60-minute planning meeting is $150, and we take that off your fee if you hire us within 30 days.

Who we are

What is the difference between a CPA, an enrolled agent and a tax preparer?

A CPA is licensed by a state board. Naomi is a CPA in Wisconsin and Minnesota. An enrolled agent is enrolled with the IRS after passing its tax exam: Daniel is one, and may represent you before the IRS. A preparer with a PTIN, like Marisol, prepares returns, and has limited rights to represent clients. All three can prepare your return, and a partner reviews every one.

Do you work with people outside Eau Claire?

Yes. Many clients meet with us by phone or video and send papers through the portal. We prepare federal returns for clients anywhere in the United States, and state returns for Wisconsin, Minnesota and several other states. Ask on your first call about yours.

Do you work with small businesses, self-employed people and landlords?

Yes, they’re most of our clients: sole proprietors, LLCs, S corporations, partnerships, rental owners and gig workers. We prepare their returns, keep their books, run payroll and help them choose how to set the business up.

Can you help me in Spanish?

Yes. Marisol Vega speaks Spanish and can hold your first call, meeting and return review in Spanish. Our engagement letter and forms are in English, and she will go through them with you. Se habla español.

Problems

Can you help with a letter from the IRS or my state?

Yes. Daniel answers notices, sets up payment plans and represents clients in audits, once you sign a form that lets us speak for you. Bring the letter to your first call or put it in the portal. Don’t email it. Your reply is usually due within 30 days of the date on the letter, so call us promptly.

Can you file an extension, or help if I’m behind on my taxes?

Yes to both. An extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay, so we estimate what you owe first. If you have years you never filed, call us: we’ll collect what we need, file the oldest years first, and talk through a payment plan if you owe. Nobody has to explain themselves.

Working together

What if I disagree with my return or you make a mistake?

Tell us. We’ll walk through the return line by line and explain how each number was reached. If an error is ours, we fix it and file an amended return at no charge. We don’t promise any particular outcome or refund, because that depends on your records and the tax law.

How long do you keep my records, and who can see them?

We keep client files for seven years, in our encrypted portal and practice software and never on this website. Only the people at our firm who work on your return can open them. You can ask for a copy of your file at any time.
